Collection: About Kim Whitt

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved artist and friend, Kim Whitt, who left us in October 2025 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Kim was more than an artist—she was a cultivator of creativity, a mentor, and a force of quiet but unwavering dedication to the arts in Mississippi.

For over 40 years, Kim practiced weaving, painting, and fiber art with a depth of skill that reflected a lifetime immersed in creativity. She was a Fellow member of the Mississippi Craftsman’s Guild, a lifelong educator, a former Arts Education Director for the Mississippi Arts Commission, and an essential part of the Mississippi Arts Colony and the Women’s Art Collective. Kim’s work, and her impact, stretched far beyond her own studio.

At Sweetwater Studios, the home she shared with her husband, stained-glass artist John Whitt, Kim lived the creative life in full color. She nurtured artists the way one nurtures a garden: with steady hands, fierce love, and a belief that beauty must be fed. Mississippi’s creative community is richer because of her—its soil more fertile, its future more vibrant.
