Mitchell Walters releases her Spring collection, Elegance, Unbound!
Mitchell Walters just released her brand new watercolor collection Elegance, Unbound. This body of work is a tribute to the beauty and art of fashion design. Known for bringing soft femininity and elegance to her work, Mitchell explored the beauty in couture fashion to bring her new collection to life.
What inspired you daily while working through this collection?
"I poured over the recent couture runway collections and also looked back to photos of garments I have saved throughout the year. With springtime blooming right outside of my studio, I was inspired to use some beautiful hues in this collection."
By using fresh blooms and early buds as inspiration, Mitchell created a beautiful color palette for Elegance, Unbound. With springtime unfolding, the season's hues naturally found their way into the work adding to the vibrancy of each painting.
"I used the watercolors and paint strokes strategically on each piece. Whether I was trying to create a softness, movement of the fabric or structure, small changes"
She creates art that elevates.
"Elegance, Unbound explores the tension between structure and fluidity. Inspired by couture design, each piece reinterprets the formality of fashion through the softness of watercolor—where silhouettes dissolve, color moves freely, and garments become expressions rather than objects."
Mitchell has a keen interest in the art of a garment. She finds the texture, folds, and structure of a piece of clothing can be quite beautiful. She feels that watercolor romantically loosens a painting, freeing each design into a unique story.
A fun fact from Mitchell, Olivia Dean's new album, "The Art of Loving," was on repeat while creating this collection. It was parallel to her signature works, inviting the same feminine, elegance, and fun into her creative world.
