Introducing Buttons Marchetti's new collection, Poppies and Wildflowers!
Inspired by her time in Frigiliana, Spain, Buttons Marchetti's new collection is bright, colorful, and full of life! Buttons found herself surrounded by wildflowers, poppies, and the beautiful landscapes of the Spanish countryside, where nature and color blended together in perfect harmony.
The pictures and memories of her trip became a source of inspiration throughout her collection. She returned to those images again and again while painting, bringing the colors and feeling of Spain into each piece.
Working primarily in oil on board, this collection also introduces mixed-media works on paper. Buttons found this to be a fun creative outlet, allowing her to experiment with materials beyond her usual oil paints.
Her love for flowers, birds, and bold color runs throughout her work, as does another signature element: metallics. Her interest in gold began years ago after visiting a Gustav Klimt exhibition, where she saw The Woman in Gold. She began experimenting with gold leaf before eventually moving toward gold, silver, and bronze paints. The change gave her freedom to explore metallics in different forms, rather than being limited to applying gold leaf in more traditional, square areas. With paint, she could experiment more freely with the placement and shape of the metallic elements throughout each piece.
