Portals : Ricardo Moody

Ricardo recently embarked on a personal art retreat and residency in Salida, Colorado. During his time there, he immersed himself in the area, sketching and painting, and the resulting collection beautifully captures his journey. The imagery is truly breathtaking, and we're excited to share these remarkable pieces with you.

Mountain Study III
"This series of paintings and studies, titled Portals, originated from a two-week stay in Southwest Colorado during a self-imposed artist residency. During my time there, I took photographs, observed significant and recurring colors, and created lasting memories with new friends and places. The series captures the juxtaposition between my home in South Mississippi and the transient spaces I encountered. Portals is intended to guide the viewer from interior spaces to landscapes, while offering a perspective of landscapes viewed from within a real interior space," said Ricardo.
Field Notes VII
"My work draws upon personal memory and meaningful experiences, exploring the interconnection between human connection, objects, and places. I aim to express how we relate to specific objects and how those connections shape our perception of experiences. Using personal photographs as reference, I push an image further through paint, employing bright colors to evoke emotion and capture a particular moment. I strive to balance detailed subject matter with a blurred or impressionistic background, creating a sense of depth and ambiguity. While the image represents a real time, place, and personal observation, my goal is to leave space for the viewer to form their own interpretations and imagine their own narrative."
Green Van
The colors reflecting off the rugged landscapes of the American West created a stunning and unforgettable sight for Ricardo inspiring his every brush stroke.

Friends with the West
The purpose of this collection was to immerse the viewer into Ricardo's personal experience, while also allowing for interpretation and ambiguity.
