“Encased Calm” by Helene Fielder
Stoneware sculpture fired to 2,232 degrees, constructed using wheel throwing and hand building techniques. Glazed in layers using wax resist and liquid latex; 24 inches tall, 13 inches wide.
“Encased Calm” represents the strength and weakness of an iconic form, the oval egg. The eggs light texture contrasting with the smooth dark base more than able to support the egg – a symbol of life.
