“Calm II” by Rick Anderson
36″x48″ inches, acrylic and mixed media on gallery wrapped canvas.
Part of Rick Anderson’s October 2018 exhibition “SNAPSHOTS” Pencil, Pen, & Paint.
He says, “As I laid in the beginning acrylic washes into the wet canvas, brushing in light to medium to darker values of acrylic paint, I planned the horizon line way up to the top of the canvas. This placement gave me a large space from the horizon line to the bottom of the canvas. Do I keep that space simple or fill it full of color? Do I paint the sky overcast or leave it transparent? How might a sun look painted into the sky? I would make those decisions after the surface dried, which would give me time to back away and let the painting ‘rest’. As you look into the painting, you can see all the decisions that were made.”
