We are thrilled to announce the release of Susan Wellington’s newest collection, Mississippi - In a Certain Light, now live in the galleries.
Through a beautiful series of oil paintings, Susan invites us to slow down and truly see the Mississippi landscape: its familiar places, quiet moments, shifting colors, and the extraordinary beauty that can appear when light transforms an ordinary scene.
Susan describes this collection as "a love letter to the beauty of our state."
Inspired by her deep love of Mississippi and the way changing light can completely transform a landscape, Susan hopes these paintings encourage us to notice the beauty we often overlook in our busy, technology-filled lives.
This collection also carries a story of perseverance. After a shoulder injury affected her painting arm, Susan learned to paint with her left hand while recovering before gradually returning to her right. That experience became part of the process behind this body of work.
Using limited palettes and a combination of traditional and “off-handed” techniques, Susan created paintings that invite the viewer to step into each scene, imagine its sounds and smells, and perhaps recall a place or moment of their own.
