Artist Spotlight: Adam Trest

From Mississippi Roots to Coast Folk

A Conversation with Adam Trest

We had the pleasure of sitting down with Adam Trest, one of our gallery artists and a celebrated Mississippi painter whose work blends storytelling, memory, and nature into intricate and meaningful pieces.

In our conversation, Adam reflected on his early life, Mississippi roots, and the moment he realized he could pursue art full time.

"I love the unique voice and perspective that Mississippi Artists have."

He also opened up about the daily realities of being a working artist, from his creative routines to the challenges of staying motivated, and shared insight into how his style has evolved, his use of color, and the stories he continues to return to in his paintings.

"My biggest challenge is always finding enough variation in color that the story can feel like the turning of pages and not the same paragraph on repeat."

Adam’s newest body of work, Coast Folk, will be released September 1 at The Caron Gallery. Created in acrylic on linen, this body of work is rooted in the Gulf Coast, where tides shape time, seafood traditions connect families, and folklore is passed down like heirlooms. Adam drew from personal memories of long days on the water, cast nets flying, and wildlife encounters to capture the magic hidden in the everyday details of coastal life.

Coast Folk is both a celebration and a preservation of this unique region, honoring the beauty, character, and rhythms of the Gulf Coast while setting the stage for Adam’s larger series exploring life across the South.

Join us as we step inside the world of Adam Trest and explore the inspiration, process, and vision behind his art!
