About Barbara Eaton
The song “whistle While You Work takes on new meaning with my current passion, Clay-tunes. I form animals , birds, fish or ” whatever tickles my fancy” into hollow whistles, then add more holes, tweet the opening just “so” until they play up to eight sounds depending on the piece. Since I also play the piano, I find great joy in combining sound with form. Each piece is hand carved from red clay with no molds used, glazed and fired in my home kiln. I currently have my work represented at the ATHunn gallery in Savannah Georgia, the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi, MS, the Red Fox gallery in Brevard NC, and the Caron Gallery in Tupelo, MS. I have shown my Clay-tunes in several festivals in MS, TN, and TX including the beloved Gumtree Art Festival, the Edom Art Festival, and the Cooper-Young Festival. My whistles have also been represented at the Copper Fox Gallery in Leiper’s Fork, TN, the Alley Cats Gallery, Memphis TN, and Main Attraction, Tupelo MS.
I received my BA in Art Education and MA in Art Education from the University of MS. I am also National Board Certified and taught art in the public schools throughout Northeast MS for 30.5 years. I currently reside in Tupelo, MS.
