KIM WHITT


Kim has enjoyed a lifetime involvement in the arts. Art student, art teacher, arts administrator and a practicing artist in dance, fiber/textiles and painting. She holds a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology and Dance from The University of Southern Mississippi with graduate studies in Process Pedagogy. She served as the Arts Education Director for the Mississippi Arts Commission and is currently on their Teaching Artist Roster. Ms. Whitt is certified to teach K-12 in visual and performing arts and taught creative movement, visual art and drama for 10 years and was a former Fellow member of the Mississippi Craftsman’s Guild. Kim has been a practicing artist in weaving and painting for over 40 years and lives in Moselle with her husband, John, a stained glass artist, at their Sweetwater Studios, Inc. home.

Ms. Whitt grew up in the low country of Charleston, South Carolina in an artistically colorful downtown neighborhood. “As a child I loved talking to the artists and looking at their art and paintings hung on the wrought iron fences at St. Phillips Church. The Gullah sweetgrass weavers were my favorite. This is my backdrop – a sense of place, authenticity and creative community.”

Currently Kim serves is a member of the Hattiesburg based, Women’s Art Collective, serves as the Director for the Mississippi Art Colony and spends her time painting and weaving. She’s won several awards for her work and has been commissioned for her work in painting and weaving.
